The Bulldogs are fresh off a bye and coming off what was a terrific month of footy. No question, they are a team on the up, but the Dogs just had their best performance of the year against Newcastle and I don’t believe that is all of a sudden the level that we will expect to see week in and out. Yes they get some returning players in Mann and potentially Preston (named on the extended reserves), but are they significantly better than the Tigers? The gap in talent isn’t that large to my eye and perhaps the injury concern to Api has played a little into the line. He only experienced a cork so would expect him to play and be unaffected throughout. The Tigers are coming off back to back losses to last year’s grand finalists. I don’t think you can take too much away from them, as a lot of teams will be blown out by these two throughout the course of the season. They get a step-down in class and they would view this as a winnable game. Benji’s side are lot more resilient defensively than what we have seen in past seasons and they can hang in this one. There is some rain around in Sydney forecast for Saturday and that should help to subdue scoring and brings the teams a little closer together. It is a different mindset for the Dogs expected to win by over a converted try as short priced favourites and with a game upcoming against the Panthers, you could forgive some of their stars with potentially one eye on round 10. Playing the team total in case we get an absolute worst-case scenario of Api getting ruled out. The line would balloon to 10.5 but the team total would still hold at the same number and we wouldn’t be reliant upon the Tigers finding points.
